This 1994 Mazda Miata was transformed to compete in the NASA (National Auto Sport Association) Spec Miata category. The roll cage is part of the safety equipment required to run in this category. The interior has been fully stripped and converted to become a true racing vehicle.
Spec Miata (SM)
This class is widely popular mainly because it is inexpensive to run and the cars are a blast to drive. The engine is mild and the suspension components are specified, thus keeping construction cost low as well. Eligible models are 1990 ā 2005. The 1.8L cars run a restrictor plate and have to weigh more in order to level the playing field.
Rules Summary:
ā¢ Stock engines
ā¢ Weight for the 1.6L models is 2300 pounds
ā¢ Weight for the 1.8L models is 2400 pounds
ā¢ Balancing and lightening of engine parts is not permitted
ā¢ 1.8L cars must run a restrictor plate at the throttle body
ā¢ Stock downpipe must be used but the rest of the exhaust is open
ā¢ Specified limited slip permitted
ā¢ Shocks, coilovers, and sway bars are all spec parts
ā¢ Any ride height so long as no metal part of the car touches the ground
ā¢ Any 15ā rims with 7ā width maximum. Rims must weigh 13 pounds.

ā¢ Any brake pads
